FAQ

 

WHERE DO I PARK?
Two vehicles can park in front of the carriage house, then there is plenty of street parking on 11th and 12th streets at either end of the lane. Please DO NOT let anyone park cars around the courtyard, this will piss the neighbors off and you will probably be ticketed or towed!


HOW DO I BOOK AND PAY AS A NON-MEMBER?
Non-Members email us to book, it's a $100 non-refundable deposit. We'll send a PayPal invoice you can pay with a credit card, then another invoice a few days before the shoot for the balance.  The shoot must be paid for before it begins for non-members please!

WILL THERE BE STAFF AT THE STUDIO?
For members no, you grab the key from the lock box and enter your unique code into the door lock and the studio is all yours.  There are numbers to call if there is a problem.  This is part of the reason there is a complimentary two hour orientation shoot when you join so you get to know the place and the gear.   Having Members responsible for keeping the studio neat and setup for the next person helps keep the hourly rates down. For Non-members someone will meet you at the studio if it's your first time.

MEMBERS - HOW DO I GET IN?
Enter the code into the key lock box to the right of the door to get the key to the metal security door and then enter your unique PIN code into the digital door key pad and hit *.  Your entry and exit is logged by the keypad (it’s a clever little bugger and WiFi linked).

AS A MEMBER WHAT IF I DON'T USE ALL OF MY HOURS THAT MONTH?
They don’t roll over, so if you don’t use them they’re gone.  It would be a bit of a nightmare keeping track of the hours as members can switch their package level every month, ie from Large to Small etc.

AS A MEMBER CAN I CHANGE MY PACKAGE EVERY MONTH?
Yes!  Having a busy month?  Take the Large?  Going on vacation?  Take The Mini for that month etc etc.  You just have to tell us before the new month starts so we can out you on a new package.  You can't switch once the new month has started.  

MEMBERS - HOW DO I PAY EACH MONTH?
We set up a PayPal recurring payment that debits your PayPal account/credit card every month until you change it or cancel it.

WHAT IF I GO OVER MY BOOKING TIME?
As long as there isn’t anything booked after you then no problem, keep shooting!  Let us know your out time (your session is also logged by the key pad on the door, but we would rather you just tell us).  However if there is a booking right behind you and you delay them you will be charged for the time and a $500 fee.  The photographer that was delayed will get 5 free hours of time to make up for it...but don't do it!  I mean, who wants to face an angry photographer and models with long fingernails on the way out the door???

THE WEATHER SUCKS!  CAN I CANCEL?
If the DC/Fed Government call it a snow day/bad weather day and tells their minions not to come to work then it's the same for us.  Otherwise, if it's rainy or a light dusting of snow and one of your models or clients wants to bail on you, tell them to harden-up and get to the studio!

IS IT CHEAPER IF I BRING MY OWN GEAR?
Feel free to bring your own gear, but the price is the same.

WHAT IF I BREAK SOMETHING?
You have to pay for it, we strongly suggest you have your own insurance.  You sign a credit card authorization before you use the studio agreeing to pay for any damage/repairs.  Let us know as soon as it happens, we won't be mad, but we need to know.  If you don't let us know we may tie you to a pole in the courtyard and tar and feather you.

WHAT ARE THE FILM/TV RATES MORE THAN THE PHOTOGRAPHER RATES?
TV/Film crews are bigger and they’re dragging in a lot of gear so it's more wear and tear on the studio.  Also to be honest their budgets are a lot bigger than your average photographers. Bit of industry socialism I guess?
